ABOUT US
The goal of Shamar is to raise up an army of intercessors who are passionate about prayer and who know how to bring heaven to earth. We want to show them they can tap into the supernatural power of God and partner with the Holy Spirit to see the miraculous. Shamar will help identify the sphere of influence to which God has called each intercessor. We strive to provide tools that enable the everyday believer to pray with confidence and assurance that every one of their prayers will be effective in the kingdom. From the businessman/woman dealing with crisis and conflict in the workplace, to the stay-at-home parent who is watching their family get attacked left and right, and even to the son or daughter who is watching their parents suffer, we want to embrace everyone, wherever they are in life, and let them know their prayers can change their surroundings.
Shamar is a Hebrew word that means "to guard, protect, and preserve." It is an action word that describes the nature of a watchman, one who observes and oversees. Exodus 12:14 tells us how God watched over the children of Israel while they were leaving Egypt. “Because the Lord kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the Lord for the generations to come.” God is calling us to “shamar” and keep watch like He kept watch during the great exodus. This shows the ability to keep guard and pray in the midst of a physical and spiritual battle. God kept the children of Israel protected while their enemies pursued them. We too can enforce the preventative prayers that will thwart enemy plans and allow God’s will to come to pass as we shamar.
OUR TEAM
Andrew Castillo
Andrew leads the school as the Director of Shamar. After many supernatural encounters in prayer, Andrew realized there was more to experience in a lifestyle of prayer. It was more than just reciting a few lines and attaching Jesus’ name at the end. He desires to show the Body of Christ that there is a power that one can grab hold of through partnership with the Holy Spirit. This dynamic force of agreement will cause a powerful shift in the way prayer is viewed. As director of Shamar, Andrew’s desire is to bring awareness to the supernatural potential in every prayer that is made. He longs to see a deep passion for prayer stir in the heart of every church. And he looks forward to the fulfillment of what the Holy Spirit showed him recently - that there is a day coming when the prayer meetings will outnumber any other services for those churches that have developed the lifestyle of prayer.
Michelle Oliveri
Michelle is the Student Life DIrector of Shamar School. Michelle's first time at Genesis was during a Friday night prayer session. She was desperate for a word from the Lord, and the Holy Spirit moved mightily to bring hope and healing. After seeing the power of a word to set captives free and connect people to the heart of the Father, Michelle developed a passion for the prophetic. In the past few years, she has witnessed the effectiveness of prayer to shift situations when nothing else could. And she has come to know the beauty of the Presence of the Lord to heal the deepest places of brokenness. Her heart is for people to be transformed by the breathtaking love of God and to walk out the destinies created for them since before time began. As a teacher in Shamar School, she is excited to share insights and prayer strategies that she has learned through personal experience and through the direct revelation of the Holy Spirit.
Yvonne Galletta
Pastor Yvonne serves as the Overseer of Administration and Operations for Shamar School. As a key member of the team, she is responsible for establishing and maintaining a strong rapport with students, instructors, and other stakeholders for Shamar School development. She contributes to the continued growth of internal project management and takes on a mentoring role to support staff. Pastor Yvonne has been involved in ministry at all levels of kingdom-building. In addition to her extensive ministry experience, she brings tremendous administrative and team-building skills for the development of Shamar School. She has a degree in Business Management from Saint Mary’s College (Moraga, CA) and possesses a wealth of knowledge from significant life and career experiences. For fun, Pastor Yvonne enjoys spending time in her garden and with her family – including Shamar alums and Genesis family members.
Edwin Kim
Edwin serves as the Creative Director of Shamar School, helping to provide oversight and support for our students and staff, and handling all media and communication logistics. His strong background in teaching, multimedia, and leading worship makes him a triple threat at Shamar School. Edwin longs to see students progress and flourish as the leaders God is calling them to become. He loves to connect and collaborate with like-minded leaders and desires to cultivate a spirit of excellence within those around him. Edwin is a graduate of Northern California Bible College and when he's not working at his desk, you’ll find him experimenting on his guitar and pedals, creating oceans of ambient sounds with endless reverb and delay.
Megan Tozzi
Megan is the Community Coordinator of Shamar School. Megan grew up learning biblical principles and had a basic foundation of the Word at a very young age. By age 12, she began to experience the supernatural and started to see into the spirit realm. However, it wasn't until she was a young adult she gained revelation about these experiences. In 2013, the Lord made Himself so real to Megan with an angelic encounter, and it changed her life forever. It was then that she began to understand the difference between knowing “of God” and truly knowing Him. Her longing to know the Lord reached new levels after her first Monday night prayer session at Genesis Upper Room Church. As she continued to attend Genesis, she started to see the hand of God move in her life in such a powerful way. Her desire for prayer intensified as she spent time in the secret place communing with God. Megan has spent the last seven years serving in ministry and growing more and more in love with Jesus, experiencing the true intimacy one can have. Megan is very passionate about seeing people set free and delivered through the power of prayer. As a team member of Shamar School, Megan's hope is that the students will grow in their intimacy with Christ and understand the authority they have as His children to bring down strongholds and release heaven on earth.
